Long a project of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, this cartoon-like figure provides public information about the dangers of dioxin release from open burning of garbage containing plastics. The Forum is working to establish multiple copies of "Bernie" to enhance public awareness of the negative consequence of open burning.
A new page entitled Asian Carp has been added to collect information that may be critical to the Forum's response to the Asian Carp - Bighead and Silver Carp - that threaten to invade that Great Lakes via the canal connecting the Mississippi River basin with Lake Michigan.
This page and associated links will facilitate the Forum's development of its Web presence. Please join the effort by reading what has been drafted and adding your thoughts. Following discussion by the management committee, an outline of potential topics for the Web site was constructed. This outline, or "site map" lists major headings that may be displayed in a navigation bar across the top of the home page. A typical navigation bar displays five to seven "tabs" that when moused over display a drop down menu of sub-topics. Other menus are also used to guide visitors to topics they may find of interest. The Site Map lists a "left margin" menu with several topics.
Critical questions raised in Web design are "Where will visitors look for information?" and "Will they find the information easily?"
These pages will be helpful for planning future meetings and evaluating past meetings. A very brief comment about the January meeting in Duluth has been added. New and expanded information should be appended to what is already there.
This page also displays a listing of past meetings. Registered users should feel free to add comments about these past meetings to any or all of these pages.
New Wiki Server has been installed.
The Lake Superior Binational Forum has migrated its server and upgraded the Wiki software to better serve Forum members and the public. Please take a minute to send a message now and then to our coordinators,
Jim Bailey and
Lissa Radke. Jim is located in Canada and works for the Forum through EcoSuperior.
Wiki will support better communications.
Content on these pages will become a knowledge-base for
Forum members, a place for exchange of ideas and relevant information and will be used to create documents that will be distributed in other formats. For example, content of pages on the Forum Workplan may be copied and pasted into the forms and documents that US EPA requires for the
Lake Superior Binational Forum funding proposal. Or, we may use the Wiki pages to formulate a Forum consensus on Aquatic Invasive Species transported through ballast water in Great Lakes "Salties." Forum members, or members of the public, may write a brief comment about a newly observed phenomenon and request collaboration from others. New ideas concerning protection and restoration of the Lake Superior basin land and waters may be posted to encourage discussion and development of facts and judgments.
Forum members will be provided with a username and password. This will enable all Forum members to contribute articles and other content to any of the pages.
For up-to-date information about the site and to establish a username and password, contact BRUCE LINDGREN at 715-774-3444 or bflind@cheqnet.net.
The concept of an
Invasive Free Zone has emerged from work by the Fish and Wildlife Service of the US Department of Interior.
